Overall Sonic 5 Fan Game logo design is based on various official classic Sonic The Hedgehog game logos, by artists and designers from SEGA.

Star directly inspired by the Red Star Ring item.

Swirl directly inspired by SEGA Dreamcast logos.

Lower-case capital letters directly inspired by the Copperplate Gothic font family.

Fan Game element's lines directly inspired by the underline in the Sonic Advance 1 logo.

Nez Tech element's shape directly inspired by the SEGA Genesis Classic Collection logo.

Pink glow directly inspired by the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City logo and in-game neon lights.

Overall text logo takes significantly strong direct inspiration from general aesthetics of the 1980s / 1990s era.

General usage of large shapes and thick outlines directly inspired by some old Top Of The Pops T.V. show logos and intros.

5's chequerboard pattern was directly taken from Green Hill Zone in Sonic The Hedgehog 1. Giving the 5 a chequerboard pattern was a suggestion by KingofHarts.

Fan Game element's differences of colours and horizontal alignments directly inspired by Special Stage RINGS element in Sonic 3D Blast: Flickies' Island (SEGA Saturn).

Different colours of Sonic The Hedgehog 5 text and Fan Game element respectively represent different key characters and related aspects in this project:

Blue for Sonic, orange for Tails, red for Knuckles, pink for Amy, tan / peach for Robotnik, grey for badniks / boss mechs / etcetera.
