Survey Introduction

Hello, and welcome to Sonic The Hedgehog 5 - Community Survey.

Thanks for checking this out!

My name is Naean Howlett-Foster, and I am currently developing my own Sonic game, which aims to be a game which fits in with the tone, style and characteristics of SEGA’s classic 2D. Sonic games.

Specifically, my game endeavours to be a direct sequel to Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. The game will be titled “Sonic The Hedgehog 5”, as official “Sonic The Hedgehog 4” games published by SEGA already exist. Speaking of which, that is where this project’s inspiration sprouted from...

For those not in the know, the short story is this: Sonic The Hedgehog 4 was overall a massive disappointment, especially in the physics, level design and originality departments. In SEGA’s own words, it apparently “continues right where Sonic & Knuckles left off!”, yet the end products feel, for the vast majority, like anything but.

The game was split into underwhelming short (And rather pricy!) episodic chunks, and lacked many features which its supposed predecessor, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, brought to the table. As a long time classic 2D. Sonic game fan, this frustrated me to say the least!

So, I decided to take upon the challenge of crafting a sequel myself which aims in every manner to be a genuine successor to Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles.
In general, community feedback and recognition is seriously important to me, and for a project such as this, even more so, which is why I would absolutely love your involvement.

When you think about it, while the majority of the community have a fairly clear rough idea of what they would want from such a sequel, it’s safe to say that lots of people have different specific ideas of moving Sonic forwards and upwards when it comes to the classic 2D. Sonic game series.

Of course, in order to make a game which is sure of what it is trying to accomplish, I cannot and will not make guarantees that all feedback received will contribute to my game.

I want to craft a sequel for Sonic fans which brings together constructive points and well-reasoned perspectives in as much fair / equal measures as possible, while at the same time not including elements that would outright clash with, or break the feel of, the game.

I am striving to make Sonic The Hedgehog 5 as well balanced as possible, but it is important for me and others to bear in mind that no game (Not even the sheer excellence that is Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles.) can please 100% of the audience in every single way. There are simply too many variables in preference and such.

Even if none of your feedback is utilised or implemented into the game (No hard feelings!), your time and efforts matter greatly to me nonetheless, so I would still be very eager to acknowledge this in the final product, given your name and permission to do so.

I appreciate answers both short and lengthy, and while I would (Obviously!) prefer it if all answers are in depth, I completely understand if questions are answered briefly and also if you’re unsure of how to really answer certain questions. If you get stuck, answers such as “Not sure.” or “Can’t say.” are perfectly acceptable - no pressure.

Thank you very much for your participation. Your input means a lot to me.

Forewarning:

This is quite a long and exhaustive survey - there are 50 questions!

How To Fill Out & Send The Survey Form

The survey is in Microsoft Word Document (.doc) file format, and has a file size of 72.0 KiloBytes.

Click the button below to download the file. Once it has been downloaded, completed and saved, please send the file back to me as an attachment in an E.mail message to the following E.mail address: [email protected].

Please include the text Sonic 5 Survey, or something similar, in the title/subject of the E.mail message.

Thanks in advance!

Why Is This Not In An Online Format?

Originally, my intentions were to set up this survey as an online form built into this website page.

However, upon trying to use my website host's contact form system, I discovered that it cannot be used for such a long survey as the form fails to send if character limits are hit.

Furthermore, I do not know of any other reputable survey creation services available elsewhere that support 50-odd questions without paying some kind of fee. (And I'm already paying premium for this website's hosting!)

I am fully aware that downloading a file, filling it in, then saving it and sending it back to me via E.mail is a rather archaic method of doing things, to say the least, but it just seems like the most optimal option to me given the circumstances.

Cheers!
